Now that your accountability plan has been fully worked through and communicated, what next?

Hopefully you gained new insights into yourself and why you made the choices you made. You’ve learned new ways to look at how your choices impact others and how to prevent negative impacts in the future. You got to a place where you let go of negative emotions and focused on your growth. You’ve got new tools at your disposal and appropriate guidelines that you’ve pledged to follow.

The trick now is continuing to use all that knowledge going forward. The beauty of an accountability plan is you have tangible items to refer back to in the future. You have people you know you can confide in and turn to with questions. You’ve been working to be a better person because you want to be a better person. Keep on moving forward with that good intention.

Most people can do fine for a few months, but the real question is if you can keep to your values when you are under less scrutiny or when you get tested by various situations. Consider checking in with those who helped you periodically to talk about how things have been going and where you’ve found positive outcomes. Keep going back to what you’ve learned and make sure you are still living your values.

Never stop learning. Keep soliciting feedback. Listen to others, update your knowledge, challenge yourself. And while you are at it, do the same for the people around you. You, your partners, and your community will be better for it.
